I've been working to remove refined sugar from my diet one item at a time. The hardest part of this has been my coffee. I love a warm cup of sweet, creamy hazelnut coffee, and I knew there was no way I could drink straight up black coffee. No, thank you. Enter raw, unrefined coconut oil.
My life has been changed.
Coffee is my Achilles heel and I struggle with sugar dependency, but coconut oil was way better than the refined sugar and chemical-laced creamer that I've been drinking my whole life. It sweetened my coffee without tasting like coconut and moisturized my lips at the same time. Score.
The coconut didn't over-power the flavor of the coffee so it really tastes just like a lightly sweetened cup of regular coffee does. Except it is so much better for you, and personally I think it tastes like heaven.
Try it out for yourself. Add some almond milk and a teaspoon of raw, unrefined coconut oil to your coffee. I promise you won't regret it and you'll never want a cup of that other crap again.
I love relaxing on the weekends, so the Monday morning jolt kind of pisses me off. I'm completely OCD about being on time to everything, but Monday morning is my one exception. Seriously, I'm always late. To solve my morning time crunch I make a smoothie to drink when I get to work. It's pretty standard to see me walk into work balancing a coffee in one hand and a smoothie in the other.
Confession: I'm a food snob. I'm both allergic to dairy and lactose intolerant, which means my food options are very limited and I'm incredibly conscious of what I put in my mouth. Smoothies are an excellent way to eat several healthy foods at once and to hide the foods you need, but hate to eat. I hide spinach in mine. Bonus: smoothies don't make you feel sluggish and bloated like a lot of popular breakfast foods. Lookin' at you, breakfast pastries.
So my favorite smoothie recipe? Toss the following ingredients into your blender.
- Two cups of Private Selection's frozen, tropical fruit blend
- Two large handfuls of raw spinach
- One and a half cups of chilled green tea
- Half of a frozen banana (optional)
- One serving of Silk mango and peach soy yogurt
Just blend and enjoy! I put mine into a shaker bottle so I can re-blend it as the ingredients start to separate.
